This lyrical voyage explores some of the Mediterranean’s most spectacular sites, including the riches of Florence and the masterful art collections along the French Riviera. In Barcelona, we will trace the flowering of the Gothic style and the birth of modernism in Spain, while in Granada’s Alhambra Palace, in Seville, we will reflect upon the flourishing of Moorish culture in Andalusia. The journey includes stops in Ischia, the largest island in the Bay of Naples; Florence, birthplace of the Italian Renaissance; the internationally famous resort city of Nice, France; Aix-en-Provence, which was immortalized by the French painter Cezanne; Barcelona, Spain, home to the extraordinary architecture of Gaudi and Güell; the Spanish and Moorish city of Granada, and Lisbon.
Distinguished guests on this journey are Smith College senior lecturer emerita in Italian languages Victoria Poletto, and renowned public garden designer Lynden B. Miller, who will focus our experience of enchanting gardens, including La Mortella on the island of Ischia, the French Provencal gardens of Sainte-Claire le Chateau, and the regal landscaping of Granada’s Generalife Gardens (pictured above). Larry Goedde, professor of art history at the University of Virginia will also join us.
Our ship is the all-suite Clelia II, which accommodates just 100 guests in 50 spacious and elegant suites.
