SUMMARY:Club of Hartford Book Event with Author Robin McLean '87 (Manchester\, CT)
DESCRIPTION:Robin McLean ’87 will sign copies of her book Reptile House. Copies will be on sale at the signing and are also available on Amazon. Wine and cheese will be served. \nThis event is free and open to the public\, but Mount Holyoke alumnae will be especially interested in meeting Robin and Annmarie\, who both have unusual and inspiring career paths. Robin was a lawyer and then a potter before earning an MFA in creative writing\, teaching writing at Clark University\, and becoming an award-winning writer. Reptile House won the 2013 BOA Short Fiction Prize and was twice a finalist for the Flannery O’Connor Short Story Prize. \nAnnmarie Merritt ’87\, owner of The Silver Chest\, was a student activities coordinator and career counselor in a college setting before deciding that she should open a bead store to make herself happy in the future. The Silver Chest is a jewelry-making supply store selling beads\, findings and the handmade craft items of forty-four local artists\, including paintings\, pottery\, stained glass\, and blankets.
