DESCRIPTION:Join us for a lecture with Frances Moore Lappé\, author and coauthor of eighteen books\, including Diet for a Small Planet (which sold three-million copies.) Her latest book\, EcoMind: Changing the Way We Think to Create the World We Want\, won a silver medal from the Independent Publisher Book Awards in the environment/ecology/nature category. \nFollowing the event\, attendees will have the opportunity to purchase one of Ms. Lappé’s books from the Odyssey Bookshop. Books can be signed by Ms Lappé that evening.

SUMMARY:Virtuosi from South Hadley (Hartford\, CT)
DESCRIPTION:The Mount Holyoke Symphony Orchestra of Mount Holyoke College presents Virtuosi From South Hadley.  The Orchestra will perform first at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford on Friday January 18\, 2013 at 8:00pm as part of their Sacred Sounds Concert Series.  The program will feature Flute Concerto in D Major K.314 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\, Violin Concerto by Antonín Dvořák\, and excerpts from A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Felix Mendelssohn.  The Flute Concerto will feature Mount Holyoke College student and winner of the 2012 Concerto Competition on flute\, Ariel Hayat as flute soloist\, and the Violin Concerto will feature local multiple prize-winning violinist\, Sarah Hadley Yakir\, as guest soloist on the violin. \nA local from South Hadley\, MA\, Miss Yakir has been winning accolades internationally for her music making. She will be playing Dvorak’s rollicking Violin Concerto.
