DESCRIPTION:Join us as we welcome MHC Professor of Astronomy Darby Dyar to our Mary Lyon Luncheon in May. Dr. Dyar was a participating scientist on the NASA Curiosity Mission to Mars in 2012\, and together with a group of Mount Holyoke students\, she helped analyze the composition of rocks and soil found on the surface during the mission\, using instruments that she and her students spend years developing and building in her lab at MHC. DESCRIPTION:We hope you will join your friends and other alumnae Wednesday\, April 24th at the Kenwood Country Club as we celebrate THE most uncommon woman of all\, Mary Lyon! Our speaker will be John Stomberg\, Florence Finch Abbott Director of the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum.\n  \nJohn Stomberg has nearly two decades of experience in the teaching museum field before being appointed Florence Finch Abbott Director of the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum and Lecturer in Art in 2011. He teaches courses in the History of Photography\, Modern and Contemporary Art\, and American Art. His publications include monographic studies of photographers Margaret Bourke-White\, Jules Aarons\, Verner Reed\, and Ulrich Mack; painters John Walker and Jon Imber; and thematic studies such as  Looking East: Brice Marden\, Michael Mazur\, Pat Steir. His curatorial work has included installations by Zhan Wang and Fiona Tan; one person exhibitions for Liu Zheng\, Edward Steichen\, Hendrik Werkman and Dorothea Tanning; and group shows Beyond the Familiar: Photography and the Construction of Community and Photography at the Frontier of Physics and Art. In 2007 Stomberg was co-curator and contributing author for Beautiful Suffering: Photography and the Traffic in Pain.  Stomberg earned both his MA and Ph.D in Art History from Boston University and a BA in Art History from Georgetown University. His current areas of research focus on artistic collaboration and the role that teaching museums can have in fostering innovation and leadership through the study of art.

DESCRIPTION:The menu is Euro/Italian with an Asian fusion twist.  Appetizers run from Manchurian cauliflower at \n$7 through crab cakes at $9  and grilled calamari at $11 to lobster risotto \nat $14.  Entrees include chicken french at $20\,   teriyaki salmon at $24\, \npaella at $31\, strip steak at $32 and rack of lamb at $34.  Entrees are \nusually served with rice\, mashed or sweet potatoes and a vegetable.  Soups \nare available at $6-$7 and green or argula salads at $8-$9.  Caesar salad at \n$8 can be dressed up with salmon\, shrimp\, chicken or calamari for an \nadditonal $4-$6. DESCRIPTION:Most Mount Holyoke alumnae are well aware of the accomplishments of women in medicine\, but how about the contributions of women to the field of dentistry? Even those of us who have lived in Ann Arbor for a long time may not realize that the University of Michigan has a dental museum. On March 19\, Shannon OʼDell\, curator of the UM Dental Museum\, will conduct a guided tour for us with an emphasis on the current special exhibit on female dentists. \nAt the conclusion of the tour\, there will be an opportunity for socializing at a nearby coffee house.
