DESCRIPTION:Most Mount Holyoke alumnae are well aware of the accomplishments of women in medicine\, but how about the contributions of women to the field of dentistry? Even those of us who have lived in Ann Arbor for a long time may not realize that the University of Michigan has a dental museum. On March 19\, Shannon OʼDell\, curator of the UM Dental Museum\, will conduct a guided tour for us with an emphasis on the current special exhibit on female dentists. \nAt the conclusion of the tour\, there will be an opportunity for socializing at a nearby coffee house. We’ve reserved a block of seats in the mezzanine for the matinee performance of her play\,The Heidi Chronicles on February 23th at the Asolo at 2:00 pm. The cost of the ticket is $47. \nEnjoy the camaraderie of your fellow alumnae by arriving early at 1:00 pm to enjoy a lunch catered by Morton’s Market. Your lunch will include assorted tea sandwiches\, fruit\, a soft drink\, and a sweet for dessert. The cost for the lunch is $12. There will also be a cash bar available at the Asolo. Tables will be reserved for our group to enjoy lunch together in the mezzanine lobby prior to the performance. Lunch must be ordered in advance – you will not be able to pay for lunch at the door.

SUMMARY:Virtuosi from South Hadley (Hartford\, CT)
DESCRIPTION:The Mount Holyoke Symphony Orchestra of Mount Holyoke College presents Virtuosi From South Hadley.  The Orchestra will perform first at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford on Friday January 18\, 2013 at 8:00pm as part of their Sacred Sounds Concert Series.  The program will feature Flute Concerto in D Major K.314 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart\, Violin Concerto by Antonín Dvořák\, and excerpts from A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Felix Mendelssohn.  The Flute Concerto will feature Mount Holyoke College student and winner of the 2012 Concerto Competition on flute\, Ariel Hayat as flute soloist\, and the Violin Concerto will feature local multiple prize-winning violinist\, Sarah Hadley Yakir\, as guest soloist on the violin. \nA local from South Hadley\, MA\, Miss Yakir has been winning accolades internationally for her music making. She will be playing Dvorak’s rollicking Violin Concerto.
