SUMMARY:MHC Club of Central and Northern Arizona Book Group Meeting (Phoenix\, AZ)
DESCRIPTION:The next meeting of the Mount Holyoke Club of Central & Northern Arizona book group will be on Thursday\, September 24th at 7 pm at Barbara Burkholder’s home in east-central Phoenix. Our group has selected The Devil in the White City: Murder\, Magic\, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America by Erik Larson for our next reading. Please join us for an evening of interesting and lively discussion\, and dessert. \nOur book group typically meets about every 6 to 8 weeks to discuss a book we have all read. We also select the next book to read from suggestions by members of our book group. During the evening we have a chance to catch up with each other’s activities and interests and often have a lively discussion about other matters\, often stemming from the book we may have just read or current events. We also encourage members of our book group to attend even if they have not finished reading the book – we realize many of us are busy and do not need added pressure about reading the entire book. This is intended to be an enjoyable social gathering for MHCers in the area. If you would like additional information\, please contact Liz Roe\, our club’s book group coordinator by email. Also\, please contact Liz Roe if you plan to attend or if you have any questions.

DESCRIPTION:There is a choice of venues for the September GVHMC dinner\, on Thursday\, September 10\, 2015\, at 6:30 p.m. \n1. With the beginning of fall\, what could be better than a drive in the country with cider and sandwiches at the end. They serve salads\, specialty sandwiches—banh mi\, pork carnitas\, BLT\, etc.—burgers and a monthly special for $8-$10. They also serve hard cider of their own making\, a relatively new venture for lake shore apple county. Soft drinks\, tea\, and coffee are also on the menu. (Please note that a Lagoner Farm dinner will begin at earlier at 6:00 p.m. since their Cafe closes at 8:00 p.m.) \n2. If you would rather stay closer to home\, choose Trata in the old Culver Armory\, 145 Culver Road\, Rochester\, NY 14620\, just off I-490 (585-270-5460). Trata features sharing plates (fish tacos\, duck quesadilla\, chicken fingers)\, $8.95-$12.95; dinner salads\, $12.95-$16.95; large plates (buttermilk fried chicken and pan-roasted grouper with coconut couscous among other entrees)\, $16.95-$28.95. The dessert menu includes sorbet for $3.75 and a cast iron baked chocolate chip cookie for $9.95.
