DESCRIPTION:The next meeting of the Mount Holyoke Club of Central & Northern Arizona book group will be on Tuesday\, July 28\, 2015 at 7 pm at Barbara Burkholder’s home in east-central Phoenix. Our group has selected All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr (the 2015 Pulitzer Prize winner for fiction) for our next reading. Please join us for an evening of interesting and lively discussion\, and dessert. \nOur book group meets about every 6 to 8 weeks to discuss a book we have all read. We also select the next book to read from suggestions by members of our book group. During the evening we have a chance to catch up with each other’s activities and interests and often have a lively discussion about other matters\, often stemming from the book we may have just read or current events. We also encourage members of our book group to attend even if they have not finished reading the book – we realize many of us are busy and do not need added pressure about reading the entire book. This is intended to be an enjoyable social gathering for MHCers in the area. This will put you on the list to receive more detailed information as we get closer to the date. \nThe book club discussion will take place at 2 PM but\, as usual\, participants are welcome at 1:30 PM for conversation. Lee Catalano ’78 has extra library copies of our selection\, Ivan Doig’s Whistling Season. Contact Lee if you’d like to borrow a copy. \nThere will be a potluck the night before (Saturday\, July 18) starting at 5 PM at a nearby house rented by Debbie\, Caroline\, and Margaret.  Spouses\, partners\, kids\, or other traveling companions are welcome. \nIf you are interested in camping at or near Veronica’s home\, please contact her here. DESCRIPTION:We’re kicking up and kicking off our service efforts as a club this year by participating in Chicago Cares’ annual Serve-a-thon\, the single largest day of community service in Chicago. This will be the first time our club has ever been a part of Serve-a-thon\, and we’re hoping to make it an annual event for alums of all ages and your partners\, spouses\, and significant others as well as current and incoming MHC students. Everyone’s welcome! \nThe Itinerary:\n7:30 A.M. – 8:30 A.M. Check in at Daley Plaza\, get your volunteer assignment and fuel up with some coffee and a continental breakfast.\n8:30 A.M. Assignment in hand\, board the bus for your project site. Get to work!\n2:30 P.M. – 3:30 P.M. Wrap up your project and head back to Daley Plaza on the bus.\n3:30 P.M. – 5:30 P.M. Worked hard? Time to play hard. We’ll celebrate in the plaza with a party featuring food\, drink and live music. \nThe registration cost is $10/person\, and the club will cover the cost for dues paying members as well as current and incoming students. In exchange\, Chicago Cares provides transportation from Daley Plaza\, lunch\, a tee-shirt\, and overall facilitation of the event.\nEmail Isabelle Dienstag ’12 in order to register. \nIMPORTANT: We must register as a group\, so don’t be tempted to register as an individual on their website otherwise you won’t be given the same service project as the rest of the club members.
