By Plane

Brussels Airport (28 km from Leuven)
Leuven is located approximately fifteen minutes drive from the Belgian National Airport of Zaventem. The airport has its own train station (Brussels National Airport) that has direct trains to Leuven. The station is underneath the airport and is accessed via lifts and escalators in the arrivals hall. Several car hire companies also operate from Brussels Airport.

Brussels South Charleroi Airport (90 km from Leuven)
(Ryanair hub in Belgium)
Brussels Charleroi South airport is a one hours’ drive from Leuven. After landing, you can take the bus to Charleroi railway station and take a train from there to Leuven. Several car hire companies also operate from Charleroi Airport.

By Train

Leuven is easy to reach by train from all Belgian and European cities. The station is very close to the town center and walking distance from the city hall. The city is a twenty-minute train ride from Brussels, forty-five minutes from Antwerp, fifty minutes from Liège and 1.5 hours from the Belgian coast.

A train journey from Leuven to Brussels South Station takes half an hour. If you take the Eurostar or the Thalys you can travel to Paris in 1.5 hours and to London, Amsterdam or Cologne in 2.5 hours.

By Car/Bus

Leuven is located at the junction of two important motorways: the E40 and the E314. The ‘P’ signposts will guide you to the different car parks.

Currency

Euro notes are issued in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 euros. Coins come in denominations of 1 and 2 Euro, and 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 cent pieces. All major cards are usually accepted (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club and Eurocard) as well as Traveler’s Checks. ATM machines are available in the city center.

It is recommended that you carry or withdraw at least €80 (US$100) from a bank ATM or money exchange counter at the airport upon arrival, especially if you plan on taking a taxi to your hotel.
